Pasarela de madeira e muíño entre o bosque de ribeira con follas de outono en San Paio de Codeso

In the parish of Codeso, the area around the chapel has waterfalls, restored mills and a spring. A short path follows the river through a lush riverside wood.

The San Paio chapel

Standing on the bank of the River Pontillón, it has a rectangular nave built in the second half of the 17th century. It was fully restored by the Council in 2003, having been abandoned since the mid-20th century.

The surroundings of this chapel are perhaps the finest natural and ethnographic ensemble in the municipality, set in a lush and spectacular riverside wood. One of the walls of the churchyard holds the Fonte do Santo (Saint’s Spring), whose water, according to tradition, cures children of the “asombramento” said to be caused by cats. About 100 m from the chapel, a tributary of the Pontillón forms a spectacular waterfall in winter. A second, seven-metre waterfall lies about 300 m downstream, reached by a path that runs beside the mill race serving the local mills, several of which have been restored.
