Parish

Vigo

All parishes

It occupies a small valley north of Pico Sacro, mainly given over to farming, with large woods of holm oak, oak, pine and eucalyptus and wide pastures. It is very well connected by local roads and farm tracks to the N-525 Santiago–Ourense and N-634 Santiago–Lugo roads, the latter near Lavacolla international airport. With an average altitude of 311 m and watered by the River Insua, it covers 7.5 km2. Its 150 inhabitants live in six settlements: Carabán, Castenda, O Covelo, Melón, Rubio (named after the reddish, iron-rich soil) and Santa Baia.

Parish church of Santa Baia de Vigo

It keeps traces of a building older than the present one, which dates from the mid-18th century. The oldest part is the main chapel with its ashlar stone vault, from the early 18th century. Slightly later is the side chapel of San Antonio, also with a granite rib vault. The façade and bell gable were built in the second half of the century. The church was rebuilt in the 19th century, and the new sacristy and the rendering of the walls gave it its current appearance.
· Altarpieces: main altarpiece and altarpiece of Our Lady of Sorrows.
· Statues: San Roque, St Joseph, Santa Baia (St Eulalia), Jesus the Saviour, St Raymond Nonnatus, Immaculate Conception and Christ crucified.
