Parish

Sucira

All parishes

On the right bank of the River Ulla, where the Camporrapado plateau drops away. Its location gives it a special microclimate which, together with plentiful water and good soil, makes it excellent market-garden land. Its lush woods, mainly oak and pine, make it one of the most beautiful places in the municipality, especially the oak wood on the banks of the Ulla, where the parish festivals are held. It covers about 3.10 km2 and includes Frenza, A Fontebranca, O Monte, As Quenllas and Sucira, home to 83 people.

Parish church of Santa Mariña de Sucira

Igrexa de Sucira

The church was built at the end of the 17th century, in the Baroque period; because of its ruinous state, its structure was altered in the mid-19th century. As a result, both the interior (main chapel and sacristy) and the outer walls, including the façade and bell gable, follow historicist principles, with the plain, simplified forms we see today.
· Altarpieces: main altarpiece, altarpiece of the Holy Christ and altarpiece of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
· Statues: Santa Mariña, St Anthony of Padua, Our Lady of Fatima, Christ crucified and Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
